Dr. Michio Kajitani

Dr. Kajitani is a distinguished leader and practitioner in the American Kendo community. He oversees the national governing body for Kendo in the US, representing the US within the International Kendo Federation (FIK).
Dr. Kajitani has been instrumental in the promotion & development of Kendo through the Southwest Kendo & Iaido Federation (SWKIF).
Martial Arts Background & Credentials
Dr. Kajitani began his Kendo journey in 1972 in Japan. Training at the Kendo Club of Toyama High School in Tokyo and the Hokkaido University Kendo Club.

Teaching and Promotion
Dedicated instructor and a central figure in establishing kendo programs in the US since 1990:
• Minnesota (1990–1992): Promoted Kendo while at the Mayo Clinic.
• Oregon (1992–1999): Taught and practiced at the Obukan Kendo Club.
• Arkansas (1999–2016): Primary instructor & founder of the Arkansas Kendo Club in Little Rock.
• California (Present): Currently is the Lead Instructor at the Inland Empire Kendo Club in Redlands.
Professional Life
Dr. Kajitani is a highly regarded Cardiothoracic Surgeon. He earned his medical degree from Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, and completed residencies & fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
